Don’t Forget ME

It’s easy to forget us.

So many of us stop coming to work, lose our jobs through continuing absence.  So many of us are stuck at home most of the time, our social lives abandoned.

So many of us are so severe we are mostly bed bound – we can’t bear light, touch, the slightest sound.  We can’t speak to you – it hurts.  We can’t listen – it hurts.  We can’t hold you or bear to be touched.  We’re trapped in our beds, in our illness, in our own bodies.

Leading UK charities estimate that over 240,000 people in the UK alone suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalopathy (M.E.).

They are children, men and women.  They are all ages, all shapes, all backgrounds.  They are fighting a very real and physical illness, which is often reluctantly diagnoses and misunderstood.

A quarter of those people are severe sufferers – in constant pain, often bed bound and unable to communicate as effectively as they wish.

So this is for them.  One moderate sufferer tipping her hat to the severe and throwing out some words to the world.

Just because our illness is not visible doesn’t make it any less real, doesn’t make us non-people.

Please don’t forget M.E.

There’s a LOT of information out there – we just need more people to read it …

I had never realised there are so many of us. It’s scary how we still don’t get taken seriously!
